The Girl

I thought I was an ideal day for watercolours - pouring outside that did not allow me to go for Birding. As it turned out - it was not so good a day after all - light was not enough to do a painting. All the same since I had started - I decided to see it through for good or for worse.

This painting is of a girl in a village outside Pench Tiger reserve in India. She had come back from school perhaps as she still had the dress on and was scribbling on a piece of paper. I took the photograph and wanted to sit for a session. I intend attempting it once again - time permitting...

Flowers....

I came across this painting on the web that I really liked. The original was a dream come true in watercolours. This one seems like a child work so will try again. All the same this attempt is posted below...

Rajasthan....

I was driving through Rajasthan a few years back when I came across this vehicle. The vibrance of the colours was so beautiful. Here is a picture I captured and the painting that I tried to put to paper.

Black Patridge

An amazingly beautiful bird that I shot in Chappar-Chirri (Near Mohali). This is a game bird hunted and prosecuted over the years and survived so long - now loosing the battle to the so called development and loss of habitat. This watercolors are from the picture below... and ofcourse I have already been told that it seems that the bird is with only one leg - but don't have the courage to start and spoil the painting planning another one...

Playing around with last watercolour...

This is the same last watercolour with some more background filled in. Wonder which one is the better of them? I am unable to cast a vote...
Also the cauliflower that had formed on the white bull have been converted into its tail...

Pench: Visit to a National Park

I had visited Pench National Park and clicked this Picture there while going around before entering the core area for a Safari. I would like to do a better detail on the background but this is the best I can manage at the moment. All suggestions are welcome.

Andamans - II

It is soooooooo frustrating when one after another the paintings just do not live upto your desire. Well here is the third attempt to the same Painting as one before. I have tried to correct for the perspective somewhat but the but the sky - the wash seems impossible to me so far. Every time I try something comes up that is just beyond me. This is the third page with the same scene that I have tried. I think I will just wait, take a few deep breaths and try to pick up - painting skies from YouTube or somewhere and try again....

Andamans - Nov 2012

This is a beautiful memory from my visit to Andaman Islands in Nov 2012. A long way to go before it can come anywhere close to the sight we saw and the time spent but then the place has made a special place in my mind and I wanted to put it down in watercolours - will try once again - let me see if I can get any better.... To all the critics - The picture I have made is too centered, the sky too boring but then I am just starting... ...and these bloody cauliflowers....

Blue-throated Barbet

I had gone for one of those birding trips and this bird was very high on my agenda to capture. It so happened that I saw a Starling and was testing my camera settings and clicking photographs. Since the light was low I ramped up the exposure levels and suddenly without any warning this bird flew in and sat just a few feet from me. I did not touch my settings and shot away to glory. I realised that many of my 'expected wonder shots' turned out to be horribly over exposed. Since I had shot in RAW - I could salvage a few shots. What a bird and what a memorable moments I spent there. This is the copy of that beautiful bird in watercolors.

Sambar Doe...

I was birding in Sukhna Lake with a couple of friends. Just as we approached one corner of the lake we startled a 'Sambar Doe' that ran a couple of steps and then stopped to check us out. What a site it was - the sun fell on its face and lit it up. The forest was quite dense and the picture I got is one of my prized one. Ofcourse this painting does not do any justification to that timeless moment we stared at each other - but then here is the moment....

Prime Roses

It was an idle day and was really looking forward to do something. I took up membership of ArtTutor - a wonderful website where a lot of effort is put on teaching different mediums. I have just tried to copy the painting and miss the fluidity the watercolour that was created there. I believe that I have done what a school kid would have  done after seeing something beautiful and wanted to copy it. All the same the effort is an effort and here it is.

Poppy

I was given to understand that drawing a Poppy was perhaps the easiest in watercolors. It seemed indeed so when I saw numerous paintings being done on youtube and so many other sites. Well here goes my one attempt. I still do feel that the natural flow that I see at so many other sites is missing but then this is what it is...

Well it does deserve a second chance - maybe some other day...
